2.700 people with intellectual disabilities, family members, policy makers and professionals from more than 80 countries gathered under the slogan “Transforming Global Rights into Action” at the 15th World Congress of Inclusion International.

While many European countries are developing policies formally geared towards inclusive education, the segregation of students with disabilities has been constantly growing since 2008.

Thérèse Kempeneers-Foulon, Director of Inclusion Belgium and Vice-President of the Belgian Disability Forum, has met Nils Muiznieks, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights during his country visit to Belgium last month.

570 pupils, almost half of them with special educational needs, learn together at the "Protestant school complex ‘Martinschule’" in Greifswald (Germany). We spoke to Benjamin Skladny, headmaster of the Martinschule since its beginnings.

Rafael Calderón is a Spanish musician with an intellectual disability. He has Down Syndrome. When he was at his secondary school, he was told that he couldn’t learn more. Now he has received a degree in Music.

Unapei together with other French organisations - APAJH, APF, CCAH and Réunica - launched a campaign for inclusive schools in France. On 3 December - the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 450 000 copies of a magazine Mon Quotidien (My Daily) were delivered to students all over the country to raise their awareness about inclusive learning.
