What has been done in the last 5 years to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in the European Union? The answer from persons with intellectual disabilities and their families is “not much”.
The European Commission has developed the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 to empower persons with disabilities so that they can fully enjoy their rights and participate in society and the economy, like any European citizen.
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution putting children at the centre of European Union legislation 25 years after the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC).
Inclusion Europe warmly welcomes the new European Disability Strategy “A renewed commitment for a Barrier-Free Europe” presented last Monday 15 November by Viviane Reding, the EU Commissioner for justice, fundamental rights and citizenship.
