International Disability Alliance (IDA) chair Yannis Vardakastanis addressed United Nations (UN) Member States, UN agencies and civil society at the UN Headquarters in New York on 6 February 2014, calling for a post-2015 sustainable development agenda that is inclusive of persons with disabilities.
More than 30 representatives of human rights and development NGOs, families of people with intellectual disabilities, self-advocates and human rights lawyers gathered together at the roundtable discussion on access to justices for persons with disabilities who were victims of a crime. This event was held on 11 September in Nairobi in Kenya and was hosted by Inclusion Africa and Inclusion International together with Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA).
Inclusion International (II) held a side event on July 18 titled “The Right to Decide = Empowerment and Participation” The speakers included: Connie Laurin – Bowie, Inclusion International’s Executive Director; Nagase Osamu, Inclusion International’s Council Member, Japan; Vanessa Dos Santos, President, Down Syndrome International, South Africa; and, Klaus Lachwitz, President, Inclusion International.
Over the past few years, the disability community has been participating in consultations, meeting with government officials, partnering with development organizations and others to ensure that the new post-2015 Development Agenda will include an explicit focus on disability. This is currently a top priority for the international disability community.
The 15th World Congress of Inclusion International 16-19 June in Berlin will be one of the most accessible events of its kind worldwide. Full physical accessibility for users of wheelchairs is guaranteed throughout the Congress venue.
The World Congress of Inclusion International provides a unique social platform for people with intellectual disabilities, their families, service providers and decision-makers to exchange knowledge and experience on disability issues and to pave the way for improving the daily lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
From 16-19 June 2010, the 15th World Congress of Inclusion International will take place in Berlin! The congress will be held under the patronage of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Horst Köhler.
