Inclusion Europe organised a training in Brussels
between 4 and 6 December 2019.
The training was about the rights of women
Almost 40 people took part in the training.
They came from different European countries.
We talked about discrimination of women with intellectual disabilities,
especially women living in institutions.
We also talked about how they can fight for their rights.
Women in institutions are often victims of violence.
This violence can be very different.
For example, there is:
- physical violence
- sexual violence
- psychological violence
Psychological violence happens
when someone makes you feel bad
about yourself.
For example, if someone insults you.
Different self-advocates and people coming from other organisations
spoke at the training.
For example, Manon Deshayes and Jessica Nguyen
from the European Women’s Lobby.
The European Women’s Lobby is an organisation
that speaks up for the rights of women in Europe.
Moana Genevey from Equinet
talked about what women can do
when they are being discriminated against.
Equinet fights against all forms of discrimination
and has members all over Europe.
During the last days of the training,
participants met with some MEPs.
They talked with MEPs about the problems
that women with intellectual disabilities have.
Inclusion Europe is very happy with how the training went
and thanks everyone who participated.
Our former vice-president Senada Halilčević said:
“Women with intellectual disabilities need to get together
and make their voices heard!”
