AJuPID Conference on legal capacity and access to justice to take place in Bulgaria

The Access to Justice for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (AJuPID) project examines how legal capacity and access to justice is guaranteed for persons with intellectual disabilities in the European context and promotes good practices of supported decision-making.

etr The Access to Justice for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (in short, AJuPID) is a European project.

The AJuPID project wants to improve access to justice
for people with intellectual disabilities.

For this, guardians should not take decision
for people with intellectual disabilities.

People with intellectual disabilities should receive help
and support to make decisions on their own.

For the project they made some research in 5 European countries:
Bulgaria, Finland,France, Hungary and Ireland.

On 10 and 11 March 2016, the final conference of the project
will take place in Sofia,Bulgaria.

This conference is called the
“International Conference & National Forum of Social Service Providers:
Legal Capacity and Access to Justice for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.”

This conference will present the results of the AJuPID project
and good practices of support for persons with intellectual disabilities.

The Access to Justice for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (AJuPID) project examines how legal capacity and access to justice is guaranteed for persons with intellectual disabilities in the European context and promotes good practices of supported decision-making.

The project compares the implementation of Articles 12 and 13 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) in five European countries: Bulgaria, Finland, France, Hungary and Ireland.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Justice together with the Ministry of Social Affairs, the National Alliance for Social Responsibility (NASO), the Bulgarian Centre for Non-Profit Law, the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD), the Bulgarian Associations of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and AJuPID partners will organise a concluding conference called “International Conference & National Forum of Social Service Providers: Legal Capacity and Access to Justice for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities ”, which will take place on 10 and 11 March 2016 at the Vitosha Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria.  At this conference the results of the AJuPID project will be presented as well as promising practices of support for persons with intellectual disabilities.

At the roundtables and debates, participants will discuss how to better support people with disabilities in exercising their legal capacity and access to justice. They will also have the opportunity to exchange opinions and reflections on how to better implement Articles 12 and 13 of the UN CRPD in the European Union.

Free of charge, the conference is open to persons with disabilities, their relatives and supporters, and professionals working within the disability sector. The total number of participants for this event is 150.
