The project is lead by Inclusion Europe and its partners Plena Inclusión (Spain), EVPIT (Estonia) and Antwerp Management School (Belgium).

What are the goals of these events?

The project has been implemented since 2019 and takes place in Belgium, Spain and Estonia is to shed light on the right to employment of people with intellectual disabilities, especially given the current crisis caused by COVID19 and the effects on the employment situation among people with intellectual disabilities.

The objective is to explore what are the instruments in place that can be used to promote employment of people with intellectual disabilities and identify the barriers.

As the EU Commission is currently drafting the 2020-2030 Disability Strategy, these events come in very appropriate timing. In addition, the COVID-19 outbreak caused a major economic crisis, affecting the employment situation of people with intellectual disabilities.

With this series of six events, My Talents. For Diversity. aims to provide tools and examples that can be used to increase the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in the open labour market.

There will be 2 types of online events:

· EU knowledge transfer on diversity management and non-discrimination

· Capacity building training on diversity management and non-discrimination

EU knowledge transfer – The EU knowledge transfer events will focus on giving examples of inclusive employment and share what disability organisations are doing at the national level and debate how these examples can be incorporated in other contexts.

The event will consist of showcasing examples of inclusive employment. In the first part of the event, the facilitator will present some examples of inclusive employment.

The second part of the event will be facilitated by a self-advocates who are employed in the open labour market. By bringing their own experiences about how it was to enter the labour market, self-advocates will talk about some of the barriers they faced before and after being employed.

This will be followed by open discussions of how the cases could be replicated in other countries. The last part of the event will be dedicated to answering questions coming from the participants.

Capacity building – The capacity building events will have a focus on policy at the European level. The events will shed light on what policies, laws and instruments at EU level can be used to foster employment of people with intellectual disabilities, as well as the barriers encountered.

Given that the 2020-2030 Disability Strategy is currently being drafted by the EU Commission, the events also aim to answer the question: What issues should be considered in relation to the employment of people with intellectual disabilities and what are possible ways to tackle these issues in the next Disability Strategy?

Inclusion Europe will invite speakers from academia, disability organisations at European levels, such as EDF (European Disability Forum), EASPD (European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities) as well as members of the EU Commission.

The events will allow exchanges from different target groups with policymakers at the EU level. The last part of the event will be dedicated to answering questions coming from the participants.
