There will be a meeting about self-advocacy in France.

Self-advocates, families and supporters will come to this meeting.

They will talk about why is self-advocacy important.

On 14 March 2014, Inclusion Europe’s member organisations Unapeithe National federation of associations of parents, of persons with intellectual disabilities, and their friends and Nous Aussi, French association of persons with intellectual disabilities, are organising a Self- advocacy day.

The event will bring together persons with intellectual disabilities, family members and professionals and to raise their awareness of self-advocacy and of its importance for the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities.

A number of self-advocates will present their own experience with the advocacy work and encourage other people with intellectual disabilities to speak up for themselves and join the movement. Participants will also discuss ways to support self-advocacy in France.

The event foresees also the presentation of a new easy-to-read manual ‘Mode d’emploi de la banque’ (Manual for banking) produced by Nous Aussi and Crédit Coopératif Foundation. The easy to read manual has been developed to help persons with intellectual disabilities manage their bank accounts more independently and introduce them the basic operations like how to use the credit card or ask for a loan. It is also dedicated to bank officers to assist them with explanation of bank services to clients with intellectual disabilities.

The event will be held in French and it will be fully accessible to persons with intellectual disabilities.
