Online training for supporters of older people with intellectual disabilities presented in Vienna

On 25 February, AGID project will host its final dissemination conference entitled ‘Ageing and intellectual disability’ in Vienna. The project which aimed to develop training about ageing of people with intellectual disabilities for frontline staff and healthcare professionals will now present the AGID training platform focusing on ‘inclusive support’.

The final conference will present:

• an overall picture about the main issues in ageing with intellectual disability and existing knowledge of professionals working with these adults on ageing,
• information and opportunity to test the AGID training platform,
• different module courses which are available within the training.

The conference will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge on the support of older people with intellectual disabilities amongst professionals, doctors, psychologists, self-advocates families and organisations of people with intellectual disabilities. The keynote speakers include Roger Banks from the Health Board of the Cadwaladr University in North Wales.

The development of the AGID training platform was based on the evidence of a non-existing or little knowledge of social care professionals, healthcare professionals and support workers about how to provide quality care to older people with intellectual disabilities. With this in mind, project partners created a web-based training which will focus on different areas of support specified as modules of the online course. These modules deal with the ageing process, person-centred planning, social networking, emotional regulation, pathological ageing and care management. The online course will become available on 25 February.
