The Cooperativa Altavoz together with FEAPS and Barclays Foundation launched an initiative on accessibility of bank services in Spain. A group of persons with intellectual disabilities visited a bank office in Madrid to scrutinise its accessibility and propose actions to improve the access of people with intellectual disabilities to its services.

The evaluation focused on the accessibility of the office itself, analysing whether the place had clear orientation signs for people with intellectual disabilities to understand where they could ask for different services. Moreover, the group tested also accessibility of ATM machines and talked to the bank officers to evaluate whether the information they were providing to clients was understandable.

The examination of the bank office was conducted by cognitive accessibility experts from the Cooperativa Altavoz. The cooperative is a self-employment initiative promoted by FEAPS and the Barclays Foundation, offering entrepreneurs with intellectual disabilities a possibility to succeed in different business areas and gain managerial skills.

The outcome of the evaluation will be a report for the bank office manager containing a set of suggestions on how to make the bank office and its services more accessible.
