Nous Aussi, a French national self-advocacy association, has announced its National Congress.

The event, taking place on 17 October in Périgueux, South-West France, will bring together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss the issues affecting people with intellectual disabilities and self-advocates living in France today.

Three fundamental issues will be at the heart of debate during the course of the day – independence, personal and family life and violence.

Throughout the course of the day, speakers from all echelons of society, ranging from local delegates of Nous Aussi branches to the Mayor of Périgueux, will be invited to share their views.

Among the many discussions on violence against people with intellectual disabilities will be a presentation by Cahterine Maury of Fédération 3977 Contre la maltraitance, a group campaigning for a national contact helpline for the elderly and people with disabilities who have been victims of abuse.

‘Journey towards Autonomy,’ a presentation by Stéphane Lefort, a local delegate for Nous Aussi, will provide the audience with a moving account of the path towards self-advocacy and independence. Among others, Lucie Luçon will introduce an interactive game that encourages victims of abuse to talk about their experiences.

This exciting event takes place Friday 17 October at L’Odysée, Périgueux from 8.30am to 6pm.
