Inclusion Europe supports global leaders of disability movements
etr Inclusion Europe started a campaign called ‘Emerging Global Leaders’.

In the campaign, Inclusion Europe will talk about the people who fight for the rights of persons with disabilities all over the world.

The campaign will show self-advocates, family members and professionals who are active in disability.

Inclusion Europe is doing this campaign because it is the ‘European Year for Development 2015’

‘The European Year for Development 2015’ is organized by the European Union and it lasts a whole year.

A lot of activities will be organized that have something to do with development.

‘The Emerging Global Leaders’ campaign is one of those activities.

Development means creating well-being for the future.

In the context of the European Year for Development 2015, Inclusion Europe has a launched a campaign to highlight the work of people around the world who have dedicated their lives to helping people with disabilities in their countries and communities.

Through the ‘Emerging Global Leaders’ campaign, Inclusion Europe will tell the stories of people who have achieved outstanding results in fighting for the rights of persons with disabilities. We will focus on self-advocates, family members but also professionals from around the globe who have managed and inspired disability movements. In-depth stories about their work will be published, and Inclusion Europe also plans to invite several emerging global leaders as speakers during the Europe in Action conference 2015 in Rome and the Hear our Voices conference in Spain.

The year 2015 has been chosen by the European Commission as European Year for Development to showcase the strong commitment of the European Union towards development cooperation, and draw attention to the Post-2015 agenda that is currently under negotiation. However, Inclusion Europe noted a lack of focus on disability in general, and on intellectual disabilities in particular, in the development of the European Year. Therefore, Inclusion Europe took it upon itself to highlight the needs of people with intellectual disabilities in developing countries, and emphasize the need to mainstream disability in all efforts related to development cooperation. Through features and in-depth interviews, we hope to raise awareness of the work done throughout the world in the disability field, create synergies between European organisations and associations working in developing countries, and support initiatives worldwide.
