Inclusion Europe and ANFFAS are organizing a conference called ‘Europe in Action’. It will take place from 21 until 22 May 2015.ANFFAS is the Italian national organization for people with intellectual disabilities and their families. A conference is a big meeting between several organisations. During this meeting, they talk and share ideas with each other on a certain topic. On 21 – 22 May 2015, Inclusion Europe and ANFFAS are organizing the Europe in Action conference, which will take place in Rome, Italy’s exciting capital city. The event is meant to address effective and innovative ways of strengthening the self-advocacy movement at local, regional and national levels, while also discussing the impact of self-advocacy on families.
Additionally, the conference will discuss ways in which families and self-advocates can work together to promote the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). The personal and political dimensions of self-advocacy will be central to the programme, particularly in relation to issues such as legal capacity, political participation, accessibility, health, education and community-living.
Several activities will also take place during the week of the conference:
- On 20 May, a Seminar on monitoring the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will be organised, as well as a meeting of the EPSA Steering Group, self-advocates’ preparation meetings and the meeting of the Board of Inclusion Europe.
- On 23 May, the Inclusion Europe Annual General Assembly will take place, followed by a Board meeting of Inclusion Europe.
