Lebenshilfe have launched a nationwide campaign to demand improvements to the Federal Participation Law and Care Support Act III. Of approximately 860,000 inclusion aid beneficiaries approximately half a million have intellectual disabilities. The current draft is unacceptable. As it stands people with intellectual disabilities are completely neglected. Some individuals will be forced to live in shared housing, some are in fear of losing their homes because inadequate funding forces closures, while others are at risk of being deported to nursing facilities. The new asset limits even restrict persons with intellectual disabilities personal savings to 2600 Euros!
People with intellectual disabilities need assistance for inclusion: at school, at home, at work and at leisure. Lebenshilfe advocates that this planned law should benefit persons with intellectual disabilities and improve their living condition rather than worsen it.
They have proposed necessary changes but need your support to have their voice heard. So far, their petition has received over 40,000 signatures.
They want to ensure persons with intellectual disabilities:
1. Will not be excluded from care and support assistance.
2. Have access to disability benefits which are not limited to only those with profound disabilities.
3. Cannot be forced to uptake services.
4. Have affordable accommodation.
5. Have their right to personal savings respected.
