Mencap has launched Mellow Futures, a programme facilitating professional assistance for pregnant women and parents of children younger than two years old. Currently in its pilot stage, Mellow Futures is part of Parent Pioneers, a wider specialist support platform run by Mencap for parents with a learning disability.
Mencap marked the Learning Disability Week by organising events that bring people together and strengthen networks in local communities. This disability week took place between 19-25 August, with the aim of of celebrating persons with intellectual disabilities as well as their families and carers.
The British Department of Health has chosen the International Human Rights Day to publish its final report following the abuse of people with a learning disability at Winterbourne View assessment and treatment centre, as Mencap reports.
