The registration for our annual ‘Europe in Action’ conference is now open. The event will take place on 15-17 May 2014 in Belfast in Northern Ireland under the theme ‘Growing up with an intellectual disability’ and it is organised in cooperation with Mencap.

The conference aims to be welcoming, accessible and interesting to a wide range of audiences, including self-advocates, families, professionals and other relevant stakeholders. Interested participants can register online until 14 April.

The event will explore the topic of ‘Growing up with an intellectual disability’ from three different perspectives:

  • About me: perspectives of persons with intellectual disabilities
  • About us: perspectives of families
  • About you: perspectives of communities

Each day will begin with a plenary session and it will offer participants three ways to take part in the conference:

  • by listening to engaging presentations, for example on the latest research findings;
  • by sharing learning, practice and experiences;
  • by joining in fun activities, for example by using art to explore the theme.

A number of side events will take place within the framework of the conference, including the Annual General Assembly of Inclusion Europe, the General Meeting of the European Platform of Self-Advocates and a seminar on the monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We also invite you to join a Family Fun Fay on Saturday 17 May, allowing participants to enjoy a variety of activities together.
