European Work Forum on UN CRPD to take place in Brussels

A European Work Forum on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) in European Union (EU) member states will take place on 22-23 October in Brussels.

etr An event organised by the European Union (in short EU) takes place in Brussels on 22 and 23 October.
The event will discuss how the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (in short UN CRPD) is used by governments.
The UN CRPD protects the rights of people with disabilities.
The EU wants to make sure that governments use the UN CRPD.
Maureen Piggott will also speak at the event about legal rights for people with intellectual disabilities.
She is the President of Inclusion Europe.
This year, people at the event will discuss:
•    Equal rights for people with disabilities.
•    How people with disabilities can get justice.
•    How the UN CRPD is used by governments.

A European Work Forum on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) in European Union (EU) member states will take place on 22-23 October in Brussels.

The forum will provide a platform for discussion on the governance mechanisms of the Convention, including Focal Points, Coordination Mechanisms and Monitoring Mechanisms. It will also feature input from a wide range of stakeholders including officials from member states and the EU, as well as disabled people’s organisations and international bodies.

Inclusion Europe President Maureen Piggott will also make a presentation on legal capacity for people with intellectual disabilities.

This year, the European Work Forum will discuss three main subjects – the right to equal recognition before the law, access to justice and the monitoring frameworks of the Convention.

A representative from each member state responsible for the focal points of Article 33, which involves state parties’ monitoring of the implementation of the UN CRPD into law, will also be invited to share their input.
