Health is very important
for people with intellectual disabilities
and for everyone else.
But there is still a lot of discrimination
towards people with intellectual disabilities.
Often, it is more difficult for people with intellectual disabilities
to see a doctor or go to hospital.
The UN CRPD says
that people with disabilities
have the right to get good healthcare.
It also says that they should not be discriminated against
because of their disability.
Some illnesses
are related to disability.
But disability itself is not an illness!
To make sure
that people with intellectual disabilities
can have access to good health services
we need accessibility in many areas.
For example:
- easy-to-read information about health
- doctors and nurses who know
how to talk to
a person with intellectual disabilities.
Inclusion Europe has been asking for these things
for a long time.
In 2018, we organised a meeting
to talk about these things.
