accessible for people with intellectual disabilities.

 


Ciara Lawrence from Inclusion Europe member Mencap met the leader of the United Kingdom House of Commons last month.

Ciara Lawrence is Campaign Assistant and Blogger at Mencap, where she has worked for 16 years. She was invited by the Member of the Parliament (MP) Christopher Grayling to follow him for an entire day at Westminster. After a meeting in Mr. Grayling’s parliamentary office, she observed him answering questions from other MPs about international business, environment and rural affairs.

Pleased by the invitation, Ms. Lawrence did not miss the opportunity to question him on ways to encourage the involvement of people with intellectual disabilities in politics. Answering to Ms. Lawrence’s tough questions, Mr. Grayling agreed that politics need to be more accessible for people with intellectual disabilities.

“Seeing what he does was really interesting. I’m glad he invited me because it was an amazing experience”, concluded Ms. Lawrence.
