In Europe, 80 million citizens have a disability. Persons with disabilities often encounter difficulties to access services and products, which leads to their exclusion from society and the economy.

The European Commission has developed the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 to empower persons with disabilities so that they can fully enjoy their rights and participate in society and the economy, like any European citizen.

Focusing on eight areas, this strategy is built upon the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and complements Europe 2020 strategy for growth and development and the European Charter of Fundamental Rights of the Lisbon Treaty.

In December 2015, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the mid-term review of the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020.This public consultation aims at collecting opinions on what has been achieved so far in these 8 areas, what are the challenges that Europeans with disabilities face in their daily lives, and how they should be properly addressed.

Inclusion Europe has supported the European Commission in making this public consultation more accessible with an Easy-to-Read version of the public consultation.The Easy-to-Read questionnaire is available here.

The European Commission expects to receive inputs from citizens, organisations, public authorities, businesses and other stakeholders.

Inclusion Europe would like to hear directly from persons with intellectual disabilities and their families what could the European Union do to make their lives easier. To do so, Inclusion Europe has developed eight accessible short forms; one form for each area. These forms aim at collecting the opinions and views of persons with intellectual disabilities and their families in order to strengthen our contribution to the review.

The submissions will help us to identify and better understand what problems persons with intellectual disabilities face in each area.

You can submit your opinion on any of the areas below, by clicking on the link:

The deadline to fill these short forms is 18 February 2016.
