The Early Bird Registration for the World Congress of Inclusion International has been extended to 31 of March, 2010

PRESS RELEASE: Brussels, 15 February 2010

This change is due to the fact that many potential participants cannot plan that far ahead. Through the extension of the early registration deadline they will now also be able to benefit from the discount. However, the number of registrations is sharply rising and has already exceeded 900 participants.
The 15th World Congress of Inclusion International 16-19 June in Berlin will be one of the most accessible events of its kind worldwide. Full physical accessibility for users of wheelchairs is guaranteed throughout the Congress venue. Sign language interpretation into German sign language is provided for all Plenary Sessions. Also people with visual impairment will find all necessary help and support to participate actively in the Congress.

Accessibility

The accessibility concept of the Congress also includes a number of specific measures to enable active participation of people with intellectual disabilities. Some of these measures are:

  • Easy-to-read summaries of the different presentations in all four Congress languages will be available on the website. This will help participants to plan their participation well in advance.
  • A one-day preparation meeting for self-advocates and other interested persons on 15 June 2010 will help people with intellectual disabilities to prepare for the Congress.
  • At any time during the Congress, sessions with different levels of accessibility will be available. In the programme overview these are indicated as follows:
  1. AAA Highest level of accessibility, plain language, more time for discussion, use of graphic descriptions
  2. AA Medium level of accessibility, some difficult language, more presentations
  3. A Lowest level of accessibility, specialist language
  • A team of trained moderators will be responsible for all sessions and help speakers and participants to respect the accessibility rules for each session.
  • Accessibility cards and a leaflet for accessible meetings will be distributed to all participants.
  • Colour codes for rooms, accessibility levels and sessions will help participants to find their way. Furthermore a team of trained assistants will be able to provide support wherever necessary.
  • Alternative sessions including a theatre workshop and creative activities will allow participants to express their thoughts and opinions in different ways.
  • Ample space for smaller discussions and resting facilities will allow participants to withdraw from the larger meetings if they need a rest.

These and other measures will ensure that all participants can fully participate in the Congress. People with very specific and/or complex support needs (or their supporters) should contact the organisers in advance for further information.
You can find the detailed programme as well as conditions for participation on the Congress website at: www.inclusion2010.de
