Briefing on the right of persons with intellectual disabilities to decide about their money
The right to control your own money and make financial decisions is key to be autonomous, live independently and make your dreams come true. The ability to make choices about your finances is certainly one of the conditions to full inclusion. While this is something people normally take for granted, many persons with disabilities, especially with intellectual disabilities, cannot.
Restricting the capacity to make financial decisions clear comes from the limitations to legal capacity imposed on many people with intellectual disabilities.
