Unapei, Inclusion Europe French member, just launched a large campaign calling for adequate support of persons with intellectual disabilities in France.
In France, people with intellectual disabilities face a lack of adequate support. Thousands of them are forced into “exile” in Belgium to receive the support they need. This issue affects adults but also children. France needs to find support solutions for persons with intellectual disabilities in the country, allowing them to live with their families instead of promoting a forced exile to Belgium.
This week, the French national Parliament started a discussion on the budgetary law on social security for the year 2016. Therefore, Unapei is raising awareness on the situation faced by persons with intellectual disabilities, emphasizing the need for an appropriate allocation of funds to ensure adequate support of persons with intellectual disabilities in accordance with article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Unapei has created an online petition, you can support their action here (in French).
