Unapei is a French association working for the rights
of people with intellectual disabilities.

Unapei is organising a new contest.

The contest is for people who try to make society more accessible

for people with intellectual disabilities.

The contest will have two parts: a local part and a national part.

In the local part people compete with people from their region.

The winners then go to the national part.

In the national part they compete with winners from all over France.

The winner of the national part will get an award.

The award will be given to them in 2015.

If you are actively trying to make society accessible to French people with intellectual disabilities, you can now promote your initiatives through Les Victoires de l’accessibilité contest (Accessibility Victories, in French).

Les Victoires de l’accessibilité is a recent Unapei initiative aiming to improve social accessibility for people with intellectual disabilities. The concept of Victoires de l’accessibilité was developed around the idea of working together, in pairs, symbolising partnerships between people with intellectual disabilities and their close ones, assistants or carers.

Designed as a two-step process, the competition will first be held regionally in France, with the support of Unapei’s member organisations. Applicants must register in one of the four categories available: “Identification and Mobility”, “Culture and Leisure”, “Shops and Local Services”, “Information and Communication”. As previously mentioned, the submissions must be made by pairs of working partners: one coming from the Unapei network (a person with an intellectual disability, a parent, friend, professional or volunteer), while the external partner must have contributed to making society more inclusive and accessible.

The winning initiative will be awarded a prize on 3 December 2014, and move on to the national round, competing with projects from all over France for the 2015 National Les Victoires de l’accessibilité award.
If you are interested in participating you need to fill out this application and send it to your regional Urapei organisation by October 31, 2014.
Good luck!

Unapei is the first federation of French associations representing the rights and interests of persons with intellectual disabilities and their families. Created in 1960, it brings together 550 associations of volunteers, parents and friends, who believe that all persons with intellectual disabilities should have access to equal opportunities and be integrated in society.

Our work brings the voice of people with intellectual disabilities and their families where decisions about their future are made.

This has always been incredibly important. It is even more so with the Covid pandemic drastic impact on their rights and lives.

Being visible and vocal on issues directly affecting millions of people requires your support.
