Letter to the Council of Europe regarding the draft additional protocol to the Oviedo Convention

Together with several other organisations, Inclusion Europe writes to the Council of Europe to stop it from approving a document that allows forced treatment and institutionalisation of people.

The letter says:

“In 2014, the Council of Europe’s Committee on Bioethics started to work on a protocol with the purpose to “protect the rights of people with mental disorders” subject to involuntary treatment and involuntary placement in psychiatry. This project has been continuously opposed to by a number of stakeholders from the United Nations, the Council of Europe and
civil society.

Six years later, we, continue to convey our deepest concerns and opposition to the development and adoption of this protocol. This open letter highlights the arguments.”
