The Break the Barrier – Strengthening the Townships Project is the project led by Down Syndrome South Africa (DSSA) which aims to reduce stigmatization and isolation of people with intellectual disabilities and their families living in townships by mobilising the parents and strengthening their ability to improve their general living conditions in the townships in South Africa.

Thibeau Bastien is 22 years old. He is a sportsman from Belgium. He is very good at sailing. In 2013 he joined Unified Sailing Belgium. This is an organisation that puts together people without disabilities and people with intellectual disabilities who want to sail.

Inclusion Europe has received glowing feedback on its Europe in Action Conference 2014 entitled ‘Growing up with an intellectual disability,’ which took place in Belfast on 15-17 May.

In a public letter, the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre (MDAC) called on the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC) to uphold disability rights standards. The Committee needs to ensure its recommendations on the Czech Republic are brought in line with the CRPD so that it is in a position to offer a global approach to human rights for all, MDAC noted.
